Responding to the recent revelations made by the Pandora papers, former Parliamentarian Ajith P. Perera stated that such revelations highlight that the Rajapaksa family is one that is internationally corrupt.
“Through the Pandora papers it is now globally accepted that the Rajapaksa family is a corrupt family. An investigation must be initiated to look into the details revealed through the Pandora papers,” Perera said at a media conference yesterday (04).
He further went on to say that a Parliamentary Select Committee must be set up to carry out the relevant investigations.
Meanwhile, Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) Education Secretary Pubudu Jagoda claimed that not everything has been disclosed in the Pandora papers. Accordingly, Jagoda also said that an investigation has to be launched to ensure justice prevails.
“Former member of parliament Nirupama Rajapaksa and her husband Thirukumar Nadesan have made it to the global corrupt list known as the Pandora papers. They have purchased valuable assets including properties and valuable artefacts. Journalists have revealed that purchases over USD 160 million have been made. These papers remind us of the attempts made by the Government to launder black money. Just because some names do not appear on the list, that does not make them saints,” stated Jagoda.
Jagoda went on to say that a leak similar to this might disclose more corruption involving public funds, which can only be revealed through thorough investigations.
