PCoI on Political Victimisation’s recommendations not to be implemented until special PC report

The Secretary to the Cabinet has informed the Court of Appeal today (30) that the government has decided not to implement the recommendations of the Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) into Political Victimisation until the recommendations of the Special Presidential Commission (PC) are received. JVP leader and MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Sarath Fonseka today called for writ petitions seeking annulment of the recommendations made against them by the PCoI on Political Victimisation. Deputy Solicitor General Milinda Goonetileke, who appeared for the Attorney General and Sanjeewa Jayawardena PC, who appeared for the Secretary to the Cabinet, made the announcements. The petitions were taken up before a three-judge bench headed by Court of Appeal Judge Arjuna Obeysekera today. The Deputy Solicitor General stated that the President has decided not to implement the recommendations of the PCoI into Political Victimisation until the recommendations of the Special Presidential Commission are received and not to refer the reports of the PCoI to the Attorney General, the Bribery Commission and the Public Service Commission for further action. President's Counsel Jayawardena, who appeared for the Cabinet Secretary, also confirmed the same. The petition was then scheduled to be heard on May 12.
