While claiming that the patient who was recently diagnosed with the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is not quarantined in a quarantine centre, President of the Public Health Inspectors (PHI) Union Upul Rohana said that the respective area PHI is unaware is the patient has been subjected to home quarantine. He made this statement while speaking to the media yesterday (03) "The Ministry of Health has not informed the area PHI or relevant authorities about the newly diagnosed Omicron patient. The lady had arrived on the 24th of November with her husband, and because she tested positive for Covid, she was sent to the Lunawa quarantine centre and released the following day after a PCR was done. The Government has informed that all patients must be quarantined for 14 days if not vaccinated, yet this lady is not vaccinated, and we have questions as to why she was released with hopes that she would self-quarantine," says Rohana. He went on to say that the lady who tested positive for the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is supposed to be under home quarantine, but the area PHI is not informed of the patient’s whereabouts. "The Airport in Sri Lanka still does not have proper PCR testing facilities. Many people are known to pass by the health screening procedures without being tested, and this often happens past 2am. There are no strict measures taken, and no proper protocols at the airport either," stated Rohana. Rohana also revealed that the patient and her husband have not been vaccinated with any of the anti-covid vaccines and the Ministry of Health, despite announcing to the public about the patient, have not taken measures to attend to the patient and stop the spread of this variant.
