President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed four state ministers to the many Cabinet portfolios (Transport, Highways, Media, and Rural Road Development) held by Bandula Gunawardena.
Accordingly, State Minister of Transport is Lasantha Alagiyawanna, State Minister of Highways is Siripala Gamlath, State Minister of Media is Shantha Bandara, and State Minister of Rural Road Development is Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan. The State Ministers had assumed office when Cabinet Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena was on a visit to Russia.
However, State Minister Chandrakanthan had had no office room available at the time to assume duties and had therefore assumed duties at the Cabinet Minister’s office.
Upon his return to Sri Lanka, Minister Gunawardena had been informed of the space issue and that Chandrakanthan had assumed duties at his (the Minister’s) office at Sethsiripaya. Gunawardena had then telephoned Chandrakanthan and said: “You can work from my office at Sethsiripaya, but leave some room for me also when I visit Sethsiripaya to carry out my work.”
It is learnt that Chandrakanthan had thanked Gunawardena for his understanding and had said the Minister (Gunawardena) was always welcome at the office.
