The current Sri Lanka national cricket players have agreed without much dispute to the novel performance-based paying scheme included in their annual contracts now on the discussion table at Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

“They (the players) don’t have any issues on the (newly included) performance-wise scheme. Nothing on that,” confirmed Ashley de Silva who is SLC CEO and current Secretary of the Management Committee looking after national cricket affairs until 20 May SLC AGM.

The five-member Committee is headed by Pro. Arjuna de Silva and also comprises Sports Ministry Director General Amal Edirisooriya.

By last Saturday (10), the officials were hopeful that the contracts could be signed before the Bangladesh Test series that starts on 21 April (Wednesday). But de Silva said the contracts are likely to be finalised only after the series.

“We have done a few adjustments. So the players are going through it. Hopefully we will sign it after the Bangladesh tour,” he said.

“Because there were some discussions which we had with (the players) and accordingly we have done the amendments and we are going to share it with them,” he further explained.

“The adjustments were with regard to, previously there were some clauses which were removed and they suggested something which we have agreed on certain things and those amendments have been done and they were included accordingly,” added de Silva.

He also said: “That has to go to the players but we don’t want to discuss it with them when a tour is on. What we thought was to discuss it further and finalise it after the tour is over.”
