Police Media Director refutes rumours of being replaced

26 Jan 2022

BY Ruwani Fonseka Police Media Director and Spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police (Attorney-at-law) Nihal Thalduwa refuted recently-circulating claims that he was replaced in his position, and confirmed that he remains Director of Media at the Sri Lanka Police, as well as its official Spokesperson. Speaking to The Morning today (26), Thalduwa said that there have been posts shared on several social media platforms which claim that his position had been revoked, to which he clarified that these were unverified rumours and nothing more. “There have been several posts, but there is no such thing. Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Ajith Rohana was appointed by the Inspector General and the Ministry of Public Security in addition to his duties as SDIG in charge of the Police’s Crimes and Traffic Division. I will continue to be the Director of Police Media and Spokesperson,” he said. Thalduwa further emphasised that there was no such “cold war” within the Police Media Division, as had been claimed in certain reports. “There is no such thing as a cold war within the unit. We all have specific appointments, and we work towards one goal. We have no such problems within the unit,” he concluded. Yesterday (25), SDIG Ajith Rohana, who was also the former Police Spokesperson, was appointed by the Ministry of Public Security and the Inspector General as the Senior Police Spokesperson, apart from his duties as SDIG in charge of the Crimes and Traffic Range of the Police Department and as a member of the National Authority on Tobacco and Alcohol (NATA).
