SLC head Shammi Silva revealed that they have sent Hathurusingha a letter and expected his reply within 14 days. “It’s time we need to rectify the mistakes we had made when we signed the contract with Hathurusingha. I was also part of that board (which recruited Hathurusingha). That’s how we can carry forward our cricket. We are not to do things as it is requested by the media. We only do this after observing his performances for the last one-and-half years,” Silva said. “We terminated terms of former coaches such as Jeoff Marsh in the same way. We always enroll the best coaches in the world. If they don’t perform satisfactorily, then we need to deal with them accordingly. We are seeking legal advice on the issue (of terminating Hathurusingha’s contract),” he added. “We may have to pay compensation for abruptly ending his contract. But in this kind of situation, we need to see whether the team lose continuously and devalue our cricket, or pay damage to the coach and save our game. We can’t save the coach and see that the game deteriorates. The main focus is the game.” Here are pictures of the media conference the SLC held Wednesday afternoon at Taj Samudra, Colombo to introduce Sri Lanka and New Zealand cricket teams before their two-match Test series starting on 14 August
