Deputy Leader of the United National Party (UNP) and the former State Minister of Defence MP Ruwan Wijewardene said he was questioned on the replacement of the Defence Secretary at the time of the Easter Sunday Attacks during a Presidential Commission meeting held yesterday (24).
“The frequent replacement of the Defence Secretary created instability in the department. The Defence Secretary has to possess a civil background and should be able to adjust to crisis situations,” MP Wijewardene told the Morning today (25).
In addition, he stated that at the time, the Security Council had labelled Zahran Hashim, who was held accountable for the attacks, only as a person of interest owing to his preaching of extremism on social media, and not as a terrorist.
