  • Claims there are cliques and prostitutes in Australia who make allegations as their profession
BY Buwanajee Coralage “The entire blame cannot be placed on our players, as boys will be boys,” said Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna MP S.B. Dissanayake, when questioned about his opinion on the recent scandal involving Sri Lankan Cricketer Danushka Gunathilaka, adding that even though a certain level of control and discipline should be maintained, the players should be allowed their freedom and liberty too. Gunathilaka has been arrested and detained over the alleged sexual assault of an Australian woman.  “I do feel that they were given more freedom than usual during the Australian tour according to the information spreading, but this information is being spread by a particular group in Australia. We have to consider the fact that some people are involved in prostitution as a profession in Australia and that such sexual assault-related allegations by them are also quite common, so we need not put all the blame on our player. When boys go, they must be doing little, little things. It should be controlled and disciplined, but they should also have a certain level of freedom,” said Dissanayake. He claimed that the players should be given their freedom as long as it is maintained within the boundaries so as not to affect their play.  “I don’t see any fault in going to a club once in a while but if this happens repeatedly, then he might miss practices and lose his focus and commitment to the sport. But letting them experience these things once or twice is not wrong. According to what I’ve seen and what the attorneys claim, this boy should clearly be released. We should let him continue to play for the team when he is released,” he said. Drawing on a similar incident that had happened to one of his acquaintances, he stated: “A child of a very close friend of mine also died by suicide, having jumping off a 27-storey building due to not being able to face his parents after a complaint made by a professional prostitute. We know that the law in Australia is very strict, so they are quickly detained, creating many problems for them.”
