SAARC Journalist Forum condemns attacks by authorities on GGG

The SAARC Journalists Forum (SJF) has strongly condemned the incident against the attacks and arrests of journalists and activists of Sri Lanka, a statement by the SJF has revealed today (22). "We come to know video journalists Chathuranga and Kasun Kumarage of Sri Lanka Press Institute has been arrested by the Sri Lanka Army just before. They were reporting the tense situation at the Presidential Secretariat of Sri Lanka. Likewise, Ex-reporter of Ravaya Newspaper Rasika Gunawardana has been assaulted by Sri Lanka Army," the statement read. If further noted that Sabeer Mohammed of Exposer News and a member of Hashtag Generation has been threatened by the Army, along with BBC Tamil Journalist Jeeran Samuels being assaulted and Activist and Lawyer Nuwan Bopage arrested. "SAARC Journalists Forum wants to express solidarity with Lasantha De Silva, Coordinator of Sri Lanka SJF and Convener of FMM who has protests and condemned the incident," the statement noted. The SJF statement concluded by demanding the Government of Sri Lanka to immediately stop these incidents and assure Press and Expression Freedom in Sri Lanka, along with action taken and convict security personnel.
