Hela Bodu Saviya Chief Patron Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera alleged that the staff of the Sri Lanka Standards Institute (SLSI), including its Director General Dr. Siddhika Senaratne, have taken steps to protect fraudulent businessmen who import unrefined oil and other foods and are not working to protect the people.
These claims were made by the monk at a media briefing held in Colombo recently.
“Although the objective of the SLSI is good, it has become clear that these officials are committed to protecting crooked businessmen, no matter if the people die or get sick. Therefore, officials who engage in such corrupt, short-sighted, and unprincipled activities should be sacked immediately. In addition, those responsible for the large-scale damage done so far should be punished,” he further claimed.
Dr. Senaratne in a recent statement to an electronic media channel stated that there are several food items other than coconut oil that contain harmful substances, but that she would not reveal further details as it will pose a risk to those businesses, as the markets for their products would collapse.
Meanwhile, joining fellow monk Ven. Elle Gunawansa Thera in backing Archbishop of Colombo His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith’s call for justice for the victims of the Easter Sunday terror attacks, Ven. Sobitha Thera further said that in order to bring justice to the victims of the Easter bombings, all those involved in the Easter attacks should be punished without discrimination.
