The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the official theme song of the 2021 T20 World Cup Cricket Tournament, without featuring Sri Lanka in the list of participating teams.
The Morning contacted the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, the reason for such an exclusion was provided.
"There is a qualifying round before Sri Lanka gets selected for the T20 World Cup. The top 8 countries are automatically qualified, whereas countries such as Sri Lanka, Namibia, Bangladesh, Scotland, Netherlands and few others have to play a qualifying round before being officially selected for the World Cup,” stated The Sri Lanka Cricket Board media official.
The theme song video, which uses 3D and 2D technology, features animated images of Virat Kohli, Kieran Pollard, Glenn Maxwell and Rashid Khan.
In addition, the countries participating in the World Cup have have their flags depicted in the video, whereas the Sri Lankan team and several other teams have not been included in the theme song music video.
