Hindus in Sri Lanka are celebrating the Thai Pongal festival today.
Lankan Hindu devotees were seen offering prayers today at Sri Ponnambalawaneswarar Devasthanam Hindu temple in Colombo.
The festival is celebrated over a period of four days with the second day being celebrated as Thai Pongal. The festival is dedicated to the Sun God (Surya). Farmers worship the Sun and celebrate the harvest for the whole year.
