The Association of Medical specialists (AMS) has decided to refrain from private medical practice on the 9th of July 2022 while maintaining services at government hospitals.
However, it added that AMS members will attend genuine emergencies such as accidents and other surgical and medical emergencies, as well as inward care for already admitted patients in the private sector.
"This decision is in accordance with the earlier decision of the AMS to support the island wide peaceful protest campaigns to pressurise the current administration to step down paving way to an all-party administration," the AMS said in a press release.
It also added that the Association regrets the inconvenience caused by their actions to general public who seek private medical care.
"We earnestly request them to attend state hospitals where specialists and other health personnel are committed to maintain normal services in-spite of restrictions created by fuel and medical supplies shortage," it concluded.
