Hiru TV's veteran Journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrama's residence in Piliyandala was attacked in the early hours of this morning by masked men carrying weapons, it is reported.
Speaking to The Morning, Police Media Spokesperson SSP (Attorney at Law) Nihal Thalduwa said that the Scene of Crimes Officer (SOCO) unit is currently onsite and a statement is being recorded by Samarawickrama.
"The Piliyandala police along with the SOCO is currently at Mr Samarawickrama's residence. The SOCO is gathering evidence while the Police is recording his statement. The police is also speaking to residents of the area and eyewitnesses. Masked gunmen have arrived at his housing complex with other weapons as well. According to an eyewitness, the security guard was held at gunpoint. All this is being verified now as we speak. The house was shot at and all the windows have been broken," Thalduwa said.
He further added that the Piliyandala police, along with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and SOCO will be working around the clock to ensure justice.
