04 Jan 2022

By Aazam Ameen Laugfs Gas PLC Chairman W.K.H. Wegapitiya slammed Litro Gas Lanka Limited for partaking in an unethical industry practice of repainting yellow Laugfs gas cylinders in blue, in order for Litro Gas to resell them as their own, The Morning learns. While speaking to The Morning, Wegapitiya alleged that Litro Gas is continuing this activity on a large scale. “They are doing it on a massive scale. All these problems are a result of unethical industry practices carried out by Litro. This has been going on in an organised manner for quite some time,” he said. Additionally, he also noted that Laugfs Gas is in possession of video evidence, along with the locations of where such repainting activity is carried out. “We have enough evidence from videos to the exact locations. They are distributors, they cannot do this and we will not entertain it,” Wegapitiya added. Accordingly, he noted that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) was personally informed of the matter. “I did not make a formal police complaint. I just told him that we have reliable information and evidence to this effect,” he detailed. Wegapitiya also noted that the IGP requested him to gather more evidence before filing a formal complaint. “As a responsible citizen of the country, I called the IGP and informed him before seeking his advice,” he said. Despite attempts to contact the Chairman and CEO of Litro Gas for his comments on the matter, they proved to be futile.
