West Indies record encouraging draw in Antigua

26 Mar 2021

[caption id="attachment_126491" align="alignleft" width="300"] Nkrumah Bonner cuts one on his way to the first Test century, which made WI earn a fighting draw[/caption] The West Indies fought back with a courageous batting display, especially by Nkrumah Bonner who made a real back-to-the-wall 113 in 274 balls to remain till the end of day’s play, to draw the first Test against Sri Lanka on Thursday (25) at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. Set a virtually impossible target of 375 to win on the final day, West Indies started the day at 34/1 and batted round Bonner, who made his first century in his third Test, throughout the day to earn a draw. The confidence they gained in the fight will be taken to the second Test starting in three days' time on Monday (29). Being unable to get the nine remaining Windies' wickets on the final day will disappoint the Sri Lankans. The hosts were 236/4 as the game ended in a draw in the dying stages of the last session of play on Thursday. Brief Scores: SL 169 & 476 WI 271 & 236/4
