The Cabinet of Ministers granted approval to the allocation of a plot of land stretching over 9.68 perches in Battaramulla to entertainer Yohani de Silva, in recognition of her viral cover of the song Manike Mage Hithe.
The proposal to grant her the plot of land was tabled by Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, in his capacity as the Minister of Buddha Sasana, Religious, and Cultural Affairs. The relevant plot of land is adjoined to the lands that were leased to the members of the 1996 World Cup-winning cricket team on a 99-year lease basis.
Belonging to the Road Development Authority (RDA), the land is located at Robert Gunawardena Mawatha in Battaramulla.
De Silva’s cover, which has accrued close to 200 million views, saw her career undergo a meteoric rise, as she subsequently secured a tour in India that was followed by recording contracts with Bollywood, and was also felicitated in Parliament on 23 November for her success.
