Zoological Department accuses veterinarians of not taking timely action regarding "Thor"

26 Jun 2021

The National Department of Zoological Gardens on Thursday (24), stated that the veterinarians associated with the Public Zoological Services Association had not acted in a timely manner when 'Thor' the lioness became infected with Covid-19. They stated that this resulted in a worsening of the disease of the lion and the need for international help. However, they stated that the lion is currently under treatment and is faring well. The Public Zoological Services Association in response to this statement rejected all claims that they had not acted in a suitable manner when the lion was infected. The Association stated that it was shameful that the Zoological Department was making such claims since the veterinarians had been involved in the process from the start when Thor started showing signs of Covid-19. The Association stated that all the PCR and rapid antigen tests were conducted successfully by the veterinarians in a timely manner and that they had succeeded in making sure that the lion was given proper treatment. They also stated that the lion was kept apart from other animals presently and all quarantine measures are in place to prevent the infection of other animals in the Zoo.
